Job Description:
CSCI Consulting is looking for a Senior Financial Management Automation and AI Consultant to support Office of the Undersecretary of War (OUSW) Comptroller initiatives focused on modernizing financial operations through process automation, data analytics, and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI).
This role bridges federal financial management expertise with emerging digital capabilities to improve efficiency, strengthen internal controls, enhance audit readiness, and enable data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate will assess current financial processes and implement scalable automation and AI-enabled solutions aligned with Department of War (DoW / DoD) financial management modernization priorities.
Responsibilities
Analyze current-state financial operations (e.g., budget execution, reconciliations, reporting, funds control) to identify inefficiencies, risks, and control gaps
Document business processes and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy, timeliness, and auditability
Support audit readiness initiatives, including corrective action plans (CAPs), internal controls, and documentation standards
Design and implement automation solutions for recurring financial processes such as reconciliations, reporting, data validation, and workflow tracking
Leverage tools such as Power Platform, RPA solutions, and analytics platforms to reduce manual effort and improve consistency
Translate functional requirements into technical automation use cases and collaborate with developers and IT stakeholders
Identify and evaluate practical AI/GenAI use cases within federal financial management (e.g., document analysis, workflow triage, anomaly detection, reporting support)
Assist in integrating AI capabilities into existing financial workflows while ensuring compliance with DoW governance and security requirements
Establish controls, validation procedures, and human-in-the-loop processes for AI-supported outputs
Ensure automation and AI solutions align with internal control frameworks and audit requirements
Maintain traceability, documentation, and proper segregation of duties within automated processes
Support coordination with auditors, internal control teams, and system owners
Provide advisory support to senior OUSW(C) stakeholders on financial management modernization strategies
Develop reports, briefings, and recommendations on automation and AI initiatives
Support change management, including training, SOP development, and user adoption strategies
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, or related field
Active Secret clearance or higher
Must be local to the Washington, D.C. metro area
Willing and able to work onsite three (3) days per week
8+ years of experience in federal financial management, including DoW or civilian agency support
Demonstrated experience in business process improvement and workflow automation
Familiarity with audit readiness, internal controls, and federal financial compliance frameworks
Experience with data analytics, reporting tools, or automation platforms (e.g., Power BI, Power Automate, SQL)
Strong ability to translate functional needs into technology-enabled solutions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience briefing senior stakeholders
Creativity and adaptability in problem-solving
Ability to work with clients to understand their needs
Strong organizational and time-management skills

Preferred Skills
Experience supporting OUSD(C), DoW Components, DFAS, or similar organizations
Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., GFEBS, DAI, LMP) and financial systems modernization initiatives
Hands-on experience with:
Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps)
RPA tools (UiPath, Automation Anywhere)
Data analysis tools (Python, SQL, Tableau)
Experience applying AI/GenAI in enterprise or financial management environments
Knowledge of A-123 internal controls, FIAR audit readiness, or CAP remediation
Relevant certifications (CPA, CDFM, CGFM, PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or technical certifications)
Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently
Strong customer and vendor relationship skills
Demonstrated ability to comply with data standards and policies
Motivation to learn new technologies and methodologies that demonstrate value
Past experience working with a Federal agency
Department of War, etc. experience is a plus!
